Strange and Beautiful: Ensemble LPR performs string quartets by John Lurie

We tend to dig things that are both strange and beautiful – and getting drunk whilst listening to a classical string quartet certainly falls into both categories. Alcohol can bring out the strange, but the music of John Lurie is indeed beautiful. Ensemble LPR, a collection of New York-based concert musicians, takes the stage this Tuesday to perform some of the composer’s best works.

Haus-Fest

Deutsches Haus at NYU, 42 Washington Mews, Manhattan

Wednesday nights come and go, but this one is sure to be interesting. Deutsches Haus is celebrating its 37th year with everything a mid-week party could ever ask for. They’re packing Haus-Fest with a wine tasting, a Theremin concert, German and Austrian foodstuffs, a raffle for a plane ticket to Berlin, plus trial classes, so you can pick up a few new phrases in German.

BEAT Festival Opening Night

Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn

For its third year, the BEAT Festival is set to bring the borough to life. All across the borough, they’ve planned performances from the area’s best emerging theater productions. And this Thursday, you’ve got a chance to preview most of them all under one roof. Wander through the Brooklyn Museum starting at 7 p.m. and you’ll be treated to a sneak peak at the many performers who will appear throughout the fest. Admission is a suggested donation to the museum.
