When you first step foot into the bright, open space of Sally's Gluten Free Bakery in Alpharetta, you may be fooled. With cinnamon and nutmeg wafting toward you right as you cross the threshold–it smells like a bakery. And the mounds of cupcakes, cookies and loaves of bread in the display case? Well, they certainly look like something a bakery might have. But, contrary to all physical evidence, this actually isn't your run-of-the-mill dough shop. Everything they sell is entirely, 100 percent gluten-free. But here's the kicker: none of it tastes like it. Siblings Taylor and Sally are from a gluten-free family, and were used to their secret (and delicious) baking alternatives–so they decided to bring their masterpieces to the masses. They started by opening the Sandy Springs shop three years ago, before launching this, their second, location. And we thank them, wholeheartedly. Every customer that walks in is a staunch believer in Sally's ways. One such regular stated that everyone thinks people on gluten-free diets suffer, when in reality, "the cookies are so good, I couldn't even tell they were gluten-free." Might be why Delight Gluten Free Magazine dubbed them one of the best GF bakeries in America.

If you're hesitant, there are samples to try. And with each subsequent nibble, the years of experimentation and research that went into each of the recipes will only become more evident. Only the best makes the cut. Taylor explained, "We're extremely focused on getting the recipes right; we don't put anything on the menu unless it actually tastes good." The batches are baked daily, and they use equally fresh ingredients – including flours of the brown rice, tapioca and potato varieties. This means that many of their recipes are sans pesky allergens, like soy, eggs and milk. And if you've got questions? Fire 'em at the man behind the counter. This is a gluten-free bakery where the staff is actually knowledgable on the restrictions, as well as why they're necessary for their customers.
